Charlemont Development Committee Begins Work
The Charlemont Development Committee, created by Article 18 of the Town Warrant, held an organizational meeting on October 26, 2003. This committee is charged by the Charlemont Board of Selectmen with the tasks of:
-
Making a realistic assessment of the long-term costs and benefits to the town of Charlemont of a Visitor Center for the Mohawk Trail Scenic Byway;
-
Proposing scenarios to make such a facility economically sustainable; and
-
Soliciting and evaluating viable sites for this facility.
The site should be located in the village of Charlemont.
The committee needs to find out which properties may become available for this Visitor Center and encourages all real estate owners within the village to contact the Committee if they wish to have their property considered for such a facility. The information collected will be used to formulate possible success scenarios and to analyze the costs and benefits to the town.
The Committee will be working over the next few months to complete the tasks outlined in the charge for presentation to the Board of Selectmen prior to the 2004 Annual Town Meeting.
Anyone interested in having their property considered as a location for the Visitor Center should contact Kathy Chadwick at the town hall (telephone: 339-4335) to pick up an application form. This form can also be downloaded for your convenience in PDF format (4 KB) or MS Word format (70 KB). For more information about viewing and/or downloading these file types see Help: Download. Completed forms should be addressed to the Charlemont Development Committee and returned to the town hall by Monday, December 8th.
